Warren Jeffs arrested in Nevada

Jeffs was on the FBI's Most Wanted list.

I first heard of Jeffs back in late May when Anderson Cooper was talking about him. They had a story about some towns on the Utah/Arizona border where many Mormon Fundamentalists lived, some of whom are followers of Jeffs. His compound in Texas was profiled, they drew comparisons to the Branch Davidian fiasco, and Jon Krakauer estimated that Jeffs could hide out there for over a year with his stockpiles, even if authorities blocked any new supplies from entering. I bought Krakauer's book about some other Fundamentalist Mormons who committed murder and then claimed that God told them to do it, but I haven't read it yet. According to the book's website, Mormonism is America's fastest growing religion. Clear distinctions should be made between these offshoot groups and the Mormon establishment, specifically that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not condone polygamy while most fundamentalists do practice it.

Independent Media Center | www.indymedia.org

Since I am busy working on my 12 page Final Paper for my Ethnic Studies class, here's a link to the
Independent Media Center, which is one of the groups I am profiling in my Anti-Globalization paper.

Today is an "International Day of Reflection" for Rwanda

Ten years ago, a plane carrying the the President of Rwanda was shot down and the ensuing months saw an average of 8,000 Tutsi and politically moderate Hutus killed per day. That's called genocide. Read more about it here.

Rwanda is a small country in the middle of Africa. It is almost the size of Maryland and has 8.2 million people. In 1994, between 500,000 and 800,000 people were killed, between 6 and 9 percent of the entire population.

Saddam has been caught

We have captured him. I am surprised that we got him without a fight. Rumsfeld is on 60 Minutes right now talking about it. I hope this helps cut down on the violence in Iraq. I have cousin over there right now. Another cousin of mine has her husband at home after a tour over there. Regardless of how you feel about the whole thing, this has to be good news, unless maybe you're Howard Dean.
